Dave was one of the "great gentlemen" of Wachovia. It was a pleasure to know and worwith him.

Dave was a kind and caring person with a keen intellect coupled with an easy sense of humor that always made him a pleasure to work with. I know my career at Wachovia would probably have ended very early were it not for his attention and guidance soon after I joined the bank in Data Processing.. He was an excellent manager and he also knew how to have fun when the work was done. His leadership at Wachovia spanned so many areas it makes your head swim, and he succeeded in all of them. Sort of a Renaissance man, and truly a blue blood Wachovian. RIP.

I  first met Dave in about 1975 when I moved from Trust Operations to the Systems And Programming Area which as I recall was within Dave's area of responsibility. From that day on Dave and his managers made me feel like an important part of the group. On many occassions he would stop by in those early days just to check on things and to offer his help if needed. I especially remember Dave's insight and ability to follow projects in detail. A time or two I gave him a demonstration of a system I was working on and I recall his in-depth questions. I considered Dave a truly special person and friend, I valued his guidance while we worked together and will miss the chats we continued to have since leaving the bank.

My father (Skip) enjoyed his association with so many of his fellow Wachovians. Dave was most definitely one of them.

Dave was one of my favorite "senior executives."  Many years ago when he heard we were going to the Sanderling Inn to celebrate our anniversary, he brought us a list of area restaurants with comments Joan prepared.  He was helpful in other ways, and I hated that he retired early. I chatted with him briefly a couple of years ago at Joe Neely's service.
Along with everything else, we will all miss his "In Memory " comments!

I was saddened by the news of Dave's passing.  I agree with Jerry Ayres' well-phrased comments about Dave's being an excellent manager who was "successful in so many areas it makes your head swim."  It is apparent  from Dave's own comments about people "In Memory" that Dave knew people well--not just in the office --but on a personal level.  When I read in the "Wachovia Old Gang" that Dave was diagnosed with a brain tumor, I had hoped that he would get the sort of "miracle treatment" that gave the late former President, JImmy Carter, many more years of life but it was not to be.  We have lost a great friend.  Rest in peace, Dave.
