Jay Mahoney

 Joseph Merrell Mahoney died on May 4, 2021. He was born January 4, 1965, in Kinston, NC. He was a graduate of J. H. Rose High School in Greenville, NC, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jay spent his career in the financial industry and made a home with his family in Winston-Salem, NC. Jay is survived by his two beloved children, Joseph Mahoney and Carrie Alice Mahoney, and their mother, Alice Dawkins Mahoney, his high school sweetheart, to whom he was married for 30 years. Jay is also survived by his mother, Sheldon Spears Hagen (Jim), his father, Bill Mahoney (Sylvia), his sister, Jennifer Mahoney Webb, and his brother, Jeff Mahoney (Georgeanna). He is also survived by nieces and nephews Rachel and Toler Webb, and Hayes and Wells Mahoney. A private memorial service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church, where he was a member.

Jay was so bright and so full of happiness and joy. I had the pleasure of working with him on several matters and had the highest respect and appreciation for him. Jay was a good friend and we worked together for close to 30 years in the Bond & Money Market Group as well as two other firms within Fixed Income. He was one of the smartest guys I've known and always had a new and different approach for tackling a challenge. A good friend, colleague and family man, his life ended way too soon.
