IN MEMORY

Debbie Wall

Debbie L. Wall, 64, of Richmond, Virginia passed away on July 15, 2023 after a short battle with glioblastoma. She was the daughter of the late Barbara P. and J.C. Wall, Jr., of Elkin, North Carolina. Debbie is survived by her loving children, Eryn King (Patrick) and Tyler Wall; and her beautiful granddaughter, Gillian Lee King. Debbie is also survived by her devoted partner for the past five years, William H. Blackwell; brother, Donald Wall (Brenda); sisters, Patsy McCann, Brenda Lyon (Ronnie), and Linda Carter; sisters-in-law, Verna Wall and Lisa Wall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Debbie grew up in Elkin, graduating from the University of North Carolina in 1981. She began a career in financial services at Wachovia and later transitioned to the BB&T Corporation, both based in Winston-Salem. Debbie married her high school sweetheart, Douglas D. Wall, in 1982. They had an amazing 33 years together filled with love, time with family, home improvement projects, and, just before their retirement, running their own staffing business. Debbie loved researching and learning, whether it was piecing together family genealogy or studying for and receiving her Virginia Real Estate license. She enjoyed reading and made lifelong friends through her Book Club. Debbie had many talents, including upholstering furniture, particularly vintage chairs, and she loved doing artwork in pastels. Debbie collaborated with high school friend and children’s author, Sarah Martin Byrd, to illustrate the book The Manger Mouse in 2013. Many of Debbie’s works are proudly displayed in the homes of family and friends. Debbie’s other interests included staying active in Richmond with the James River Hikers, in addition to hiking trails and national parks in the United States, Canada, and Europe. In May, Debbie and friend, Liz Goode-Clayton, hiked the West Highland Way Trail in Scotland in 8 days.

Debbie loved doing random acts of kindness and leaves behind her family, partner, many friends, and a fur baby, Mr. Dixie Gray, all of whom will dearly miss her. The family sincerely and deeply appreciates the compassionate care provided to Debbie at Westminster Canterbury Richmond, as well as the love and support from Debbie’s Book Club and hiking friends.

A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m.  Friday, July 21, 2023 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W Broad St, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Family and friends will be received, one hour prior.
