John Peddycord

Nov. 28, 2017:  John's son, Scott, shared the somber news that John passed away Nov. 25.  

John William Peddycord entered the more immediate presence of his Savior this past Saturday, November 25, 2017. He was born on February 13, 1932 in Winston-Salem to Thomas Arthur Peddycord, Sr. and Ruth Beach Peddycord.

John graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School in 1950 and went on to complete his education at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill class of 1955. After college he spent two years in the Army before returning to Winston-Salem to begin his career at Wachovia. He spent his entire career at Wachovia in various Wealth Management roles.

John was a lifelong member of Calvary Moravian Church. He served in many leadership roles on the boards and various committees of the Church including as its treasurer and chairman of the finance committee well beyond his retirement. He was well versed in the funds and policies of the church and was a resource of information for the current board members and pastors up until this past year. He was an avid volunteer in the tennis community with Winston-Salem Tennis, Inc, The North Carolina Tennis Association, The Southern Tennis Association and the United States Tennis Association. He was inducted into the North Carolina Tennis and the Southern Tennis Halls of Fame, even though he did not play tennis, because of his dedication and leadership as a volunteer in his many roles promoting tennis. Annually, North Carolina Tennis presents two awards in honor of John; the Junior Tennis Council Award Given In Honor of John Peddycord and the Dottie and John Peddycord President’s Award.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Doris “Dot” Luther Peddycord; a son Jeffery William Peddycord; brothers, Thomas A. Peddycord, Jr., Robert D. Peddycord and Richard E. Peddycord.

John is survived by his son John Scott Peddycord and wife Elaine and three grandchildren, Meghan Elizabeth Peddycord, John Wesley Peddycord and William Scott Peddycord. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and special friends who were so dear to him.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, at Salem Funeral Home, 120 S. Main St. The funeral will be held on Friday, December 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Moravian Church. Burial will follow in God’s Acre in Salem.
