David McQueen

II Corinthians 5:8…To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

David Calvin McQueen entered this life on a warm spring day of May 16, 1948 in Winston Salem, NC.

He departed this life on Wednesday July 15, 2020.

He was born to the late Pastor Joseph Kelly and the late Mozelle Black McQueen. David was the youngest of four children born to this union.

David was a graduate of Reynolds High School. He attended Winston-Salem Business College for his post-secondary education, graduated with an associate degree in Accounting.

He joined the U.S. Air Force where he became a decorated Staff Sergeant, Vietnam Veteran and Reservist. He worked for Wachovia/Wells Fargo and he was most proud of attaining the position of Vice President of Payroll Management. He retired from Wells Fargo in 2009.

His earliest Christian experience was through his father, Pastor Joseph McQueen at Macedonia True Vine Baptist Church. David was the founding member of Mt. Moriah Outreach Center, under the pastorate of Bishop Todd Fulton. In the 18 years at Mt. Moriah, David was instrumental in starting and building the Deacon’s Board to what it is today. He was instrumental as well in helping establish

The Deacon David McQueen Scholarship Program, that assists church youth in attaining a post-secondary education. David was an advocate for youth and education. David also had a giving heart providing clothing for youth as well, from family, to church members to others in need he would never miss an opportunity to do a little shopping.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Kelly and Mozelle Black McQueen; his sister, Dorothy McQueen; his brother, Kelly McQueen, Jr.; his sister, Gwendolyn McQueen Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory nephew, Kelly McQueen III (Sandra) of Concord, NC; niece, Faith Johnson Darby (Donald) of Winston-Salem; nephew, Todd Fulton (Judith) of Kernersville, NC ; and a host of great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Private memorial services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2020.

David's broad smile is the first thing I remember about my contacts with him, followed by my appreciation for his focus, intelligence and wit. He was a true Wachovian and a pleasure to work with. RIP
