Thomas George Becker
Mr. Becker, loving father and loyal husband, dies at 62. Mr. Becker, loving father; loyal husband; devoted friend; died on Friday, April 24, 2009. He was 62 and spent his last years living in both Charlotte and Highlands, NC.
His death at his home in Charlotte was confirmed by his wife Mary Beth. He had been battling ALS for many years.
Admired by his family, friends, and colleagues for his strong leadership and quick whit, Tom touched the lives of many and will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
'Every day is a dividend,' Tom often said. 'Make sure you spend it wisely.'
Tom was born in Cincinnati, OH on August 16, 1946 to the late George Becker and Helen Beehler Becker. He graduated from Aiken High School in 1964 and from The University of Cincinnati in 1968 with a degree in economics and a MBA in marketing. Tom served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, FL and Norfolk, VA. He attained the rank of Lieutenant. On June 6, 1968 he was united in marriage to Mary Beth Shelgren. In addition to his wife of 43 years, Tom is survived by three sons Matthew, Michael and Christopher; one sister Sue; two daughters-in-law Lesley and Gloria; and two grandchildren Eleanor and Chesson.
Thomas Becker is best described by those who know him as a passionate man who got along well with others and laughed his way through both his accomplishments and his hardships.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April, 29, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church located at 501 North Tryon Street in Charlotte, NC. Pastor Eddie Ingram will officiate. Family and friends are welcome to the church on Wednesday.
