Jimmy Harrington

James O. Harrington Jr
June 2, 1922 - Sept 3, 2005

Jimmy was a graduate of John W Hanes High School in W-Salem.  He joined Wachovia Bank in 1940.   He served during WWII, in the operations section of headquarters for the 20th Air Force, attaining the rank of seregeant major.   Upon his discharge in 1945,  Jimmy returned to Wachovia Bank, receiving a graduate certificate from the American Institute of Banking and Mid-Management School of Carolina's Banker's Association.    He assisted in the development of regional bank operational centers, and was Wachovia's first operations-center manager.   He also was an instructor for the Bank Administration Institute and Fed Reserve Bank.  Jimmy retired from Wachovia Bank as a vice president of operations in 1984.

Jimmy was active in community affairs and civic organizations, serving on committees for the Chamber of Commerce, United Way and the Red Cross Blood Program.  He was also a member of the Ardmore Community Club, as well as the Postmaster Advisory Committee, served as president of the National Office Management Assoc. and weas a member of the Draft Board for Forsyth County.    Jimmy early loved Home Moravian Church in Old Church, and was a life-long member.    He played in the Moravian Band in his early years, and from 1984 to 1997 weas treasurer of Home Moravian.   He also served on both the local and central Board of Trusteees, as well as the Investment Committee of the Southern Province of the Moravian Church.

Jimmy is survived by 2 sons, James O Harrington, III and Richard C Harrington and wife Frank, and 4 grandchildren.

Everybody loved Mr Harrington.......He was too kind to us all. He was lucky to live a long happy, successful life.

Mr. Harrington hired me in 1969 and I always thought he was just wonderful. I was lucky to have known him.
