IN MEMORY

Steve Royal

Stephen Douglas Royal of Greensboro died January 25, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Steve was born June 5, 1939, to Charles Alton Royal and Naomi Butler Royal in Salemburg, NC.

He is survived by his wife, Patti Corriher Royal of Greensboro; his son, Charles
Royal and Ivy Fowler of Wilmington, NC; his daughter, Martha Myers and Tim
of Garner, NC; and his grandchildren, Frances Spencer and Aiden of Garner, John Crawford and Misty of Willow Springs, Elizabeth Royal of Denver, CO, Charlie Royal of Goldsboro, and Sydney, Hunter and Zoe Myers of Garner; and his brother Charles Alton Royal, Jr. of Salemburg, NC.

He attended Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, VA, where he made many life-long friends, NC State University, and graduated from Guilford College.

Except for a period of commercial land development in Wilmington, Steve spent his career at Wachovia Bank working in various management roles including Operations, Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, International Operations and Foreign Exchange.

During his entire life Steve loved the beach where he enjoyed boating and fishing at Wrightsville and Carolina Beach. His first love was his family. Of all his accomplishments, his greatest was being the very best husband, father and grandfather. He and Patti were actively involved with their grandchildren’s lives and took many memorable trips with them. They spent many hours teaching the children to swim and pulling them on water skis, wakeboards and floats behind Steve’s much-loved Boston Whaler. Family gatherings were his favorite moments.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 410 North Holden Road, Greensboro. A memorial service in
Wilmington will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Virginia Episcopal
School, 400 VES Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503 or to the Salvation Army, 307 W. Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, NC 27403.

Steve and Patti are two great Wachovians, and made a wonderful couple together.  I remember Steve as always being a smiling, kind and warm person.  Sincere and thoughtful.  He possessed all the qualities that exemplify the best of a "Wachovian", and of a true friend.

Blessings and prayers to Patti and the family.  We all share in their grief and their loss.

This news was so shocking to me. Steve was such a good person and always had a smile for everyone. He always talked about Patti and how much he liked to fish. My prayers are with his family. Such a great loss.

Steve was always great to work with at Wachovia.  If ever I needed his guidance in International, he was more than willing to assist.  A wonderful coworker and I am sure he will be missed dearly.

When Steve came to International Operations, he quickly became part of the International Family.  He was always positive and you could tell by his conversations that he loved his family very much.  He and Patti were one of the nicest couples that one would ever want to know.

Steve was such a nice person and I enjoyed working with him in International.  We had many talks about Wrightsville Beach and knew how much he loved going to the coast.
