
Mrs. Mary Ruth Painter Shelton, 88, died on Monday, September 11, 2017, at Salemtowne Retirement Community. Mary was born on March 3, 1929, in Forsyth County to William Frank and Nannie Belle Painter. Mary worked for Western Electric, JC Penny’s, and retired from Wachovia Bank. Through her loving care and concern Mary touched many lives. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Moravian Church serving in many capacities as Sunday School teacher, diener, logos helper, circle leader, Women’s Fellowship… member, Phohl Fellowship secretery, Laurel Ridge counselor, Meals on Wheels volunteer, Salemtowne volunteer, and was an active supporter of Boy Scout Troop 716. Mary enjoyed spending time with her four grandsons, family beach trips, Wake Forest sports, traveling and playing golf with friends, and working in her flower gardens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl Depriest Shelton; one step-brother; and two step-sisters. Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Weavil (Eddie); one son, Steve Shelton (Olivia); four grandchildren, Taylor Weavil (Kelly); Ben Shelton (Jane); Matthew Shelton (Emily); and Joshua Shelton; three great-grandchildren, Palmer Ann Shelton, Adelaide Brinkley Shelton, and Clara June Shelton; and special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Trinity Moravian Church with Pastor John Jackman officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30pm on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at the church. Interment will follow at Salem Moravian Graveyard.
