Susan Foster

FOSTER WINSTON-SALEM Susan Marie Foster, daughter of W.B. "Dub" and Betty Foster passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Springwood Care Center into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Susan was born September 4, 1954, in Winston-Salem, NC, and attended schools here graduating from East Forsyth High School in 1972. She was married in 1973 for a brief time and later graduated from Forsyth Technical Institute in 1982, receiving an associate degree in banking. She was employed by Wachovia Bank for 27 years and retired from the Training Section on West 5th St. in 2008. Many of her fellow employees have praised her for her knowledge and dedication to her work. Susan was a member of Trinity Moravian Church, but grew up in Pine Chapel Moravian Church, where she participated in many activities like playing in the Church band and singing in the choir. She later began to sing every year in the presentation of the Messiah and at the time when her health broke, she was the Director of the Bell Choir at Trinity Moravian Church. While not having a lot of time to sew, Susan followed in her Mom's footsteps in her sewing ability and was a better quilter than her Mom, according to her Mom. From her brief marriage was born a son and a daughter, Eric Collins, of this city and Mary Elizabeth Collins of San Angelo, Texas, who survive. Besides her parents, she is also survived by her sister, Gail Fariss, her major caregiver who was by her side every step of the way for more than 2 years as she battled a malignant brain tumor. Also surviving are Gail's husband, Alan Fariss, and their children, Jason of Charlotte and Matthew of Pfafftown. Susan is also survived by several aunts and uncles: Frank and Carol Miller of Fairbanks, Alaska, and their children, Ken and Celia Miller in Germany and Greg Miller of Colorado; Bob Nickerson of Satsuma, Florida, and sons, Mark and Karen Nickerson of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and Brian and Tilly Nickerson of Hialeah, Florida, and Frank and Dottie Foster of Winston-Salem and daughter, Velda, and her children; also her cousins, Harold and Pamela B. Glazer of Raleigh, NC. Susan was preceded in death by all of her grandparents, H.W. (Nick) and Ethel Nickerson of Hialeah, Florida, and W.B. and Jaspan Blevins Foster, Sr. of Winston-Salem, NC. The family will be at Voglers Reynolda Road Chapel on Thursday, April 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to receive friends. Funeral Services will be held at Pine Chapel Moravian Church on Friday, April 2, at 2 p.m. Conducting the Service will be the Rev. Norwood Green, who has known Susan since she was a small child and under whose ministry she grew in the grace and knowledge of her Lord, Jesus Christ; also, Rev. John Jackman from Trinity Moravian Church and the Rev. James Demby, present minister of Pine Chapel Moravian Church. The family would like to thank the staff at Springwood Care for their loving care of Susan during the three months she was in their care and especially the folks from Hospice who render such a wonderful service at the time of our greatest need.
