Haywood Lee Swanson, Jr., 82, died on November 25, 2010 at home. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., November 29, 2010, at Ridge Road Baptist Church.
Lee was a native of Wake Co., and grew up in Wendell, NC. He was the son of the late Lucille Todd and Haywood Lee Swanson, Sr. He attended North Carolina State University. After serving in the Army briefly, he began his career at Wachovia Bank in April of 1950.
During his 40 year career, he held many different positions within the retail banking organization. He retired in June of 1990 as Senior Vice President and Regional Retail Manager over central and eastern North Carolina.
Lee was actively involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations. He was recognized by the Boy Scouts of America, with the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given to a volunteer, for his numerous years of service given to the Occoneechee Council. He was also an active member of the Ridge Road Baptist Church and held many positions over a 50 year period.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Britt Swanson; three children, Mark Swanson, Jan Swanson and husband, Dr. Wells Edmundson and Tom Swanson and wife, Jan Swanson. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Erin Keefer and husband, CPT Zachary Keefer, Brian Edmundson, Sara Swanson and Matt Swanson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Ridge Road Baptist Church or Hospice of Wake County.
