Archie K. Davis, January 22, 1911-March 13, 1998
Archie Davis' career @ Wachovia started in 1932. By 1938, he was named Assistant Treasurer; became an Assistant Vice Pres in 1940, Vice Pres in1942, Senior VP in 1946, and Chairman in 1956. He retired from Wachovia in 1974
During his time @ Wachovia - 1965-66 - Archie served as President of the American Bankers Association. He also was President of the US Chamber of Commerce in 1971-72.
After retiring from Wachovia, he earned a master's degree from UNC (1975). His dissertation was on a Civil War leader - which was turned into a book -- Boy Colonel of The Confederacy: The Life and Times of Henry King Burgwyn, Jr.
Over the years, Archie was a director with many businesses, including AT&T, Media General, Southern Railway Corp, and RJ Reynolds Industries. Numerous awards are named after Archie from a wide range of groups that he benefited over the years.
