John F Watlington, Jr      March 23, 1911 - May 31, 1999

 John joined Wachovia in 1933 immediately following his graudation from Washington & Lee University.

After a short time in WS, he transferred to Charlotte where he served for 17 years - being named a senior executive during this time.   He was elected Pres and CEO in 1956,  In 1968, after WB became a national charter and formed its bank holding company, The Wachovia Corporation, John became the Chairman and CEO of Wachovia Corporation.

John retired December 31, 1976. He continued to serve as a director until 1982
