Joseph Harry Sapp

 

SAPP WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Joseph Harry Sapp, 91 , of 131 Archie Yokeley Road, passed away early Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at High Point Regional Hospital. Born in Winston-Salem on October 25, 1919 to C.C. and Jesse Whicker Sapp, he had made his home in the Winston-Salem and Charlotte areas for his entire life. He graduated from Gray High School at the age of 16 and went to work for Wachovia Bank. Harry spent 38 years with Wachovia retiring as Vice President of Operations. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War Two in the European Theatre of operations. He enjoyed his retirement years and spent a great deal of time playing tennis. After his health began to fail, he enjoyed those times sitting on his porch reading and visiting with family and friends who dropped by. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Donna S. Lyons, brother Roger E. Sapp and his beloved son, Joseph Harry "Joey" Sapp, Jr. in 1983. On January 18, 1947 he married the former Betty Yokeley who survives of the home. Also surviving is his daughter, Sharyn "Sherry" Sapp of Winston-Salem, and his sister, Helen Yandell of Charlotte and a host of nieces and nephews who he loved very much. Memorial Services will be on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wallburg Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Ehrlich and the Rev. Roy Cantrell officiating.
