
BLANCO WINSTON-SALEM - Susanne Hall Blanco, born on April 22, 1946 in Columbia, South Carolina, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on the 11th day of December, 2010 at the Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community. Susanne was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Joseph Hall and Mildred Chandler Hall. Susanne graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 1968 then moved to Winston-Salem to become the editor of the Wachovia Corporation internal magazine, The Wachovian, and later was the editor of the Pilot Wheel Magazine at Pilot Freight Carriers. She also worked in the communication and marketing department at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, prior to staying home with the children, Jonathan and Elizabeth. Susanne devoted her considerable energy and love for children to leading the effort to form the Friends of Brenner Children's Hospital support group, serving as the founding President of The Friends of Brenner Children's Hospital for the first 2 years of its existence. She also served on the Board of Advisors for The Brenner Children's Hospital for its first 15 years, helping to assure its success as a community and regional institution. Susanne served on the Board of Deacons and later as the Chairman of the Board of Deacons at The First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. She was a greeter for worship at Centenary United Methodist Church where she and David became members in 2003. She was a lovely, spontaneously witty person who loved life and all the people she encountered. She was devoted to her parents and to close aunts, uncles and cousins, was a loving and faithful wife of 41 years to her husband David, and a joyful mother and grandmother. She loved the Bible study group she attended for many years until her illness prevented her from continuing. She was a member of The Winston-Salem Dogwood Garden Club, and a book club for many years. Susanne had many wonderful friends who have been very supportive in the long years of her illness. She is survived by her husband, David; her son, Jonathan Bennett Blanco and his wife, Kristine Kapicak Blanco; her daughter, Elizabeth Blanco Marley and husband, Jason Morris Marley; and by three dearly beloved grandchildren: Bennett, Cally and Mercer Blanco; and by her sister, Kathleen Hall Perret and husband, Philip Samuel Perret, MD of Lafayette, Louisiana; and their daughter Laura K. Perret; her sister, Edyce Hall Elworth and husband, Patrick R. Elworth; their son Jacob E. Elworth; and her brother, Edward Joseph Hall, Jr. of Beirut, Lebanon. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Dr. Peter Graves and Reverend Jack Yarbrough in the sanctuary of Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 West 5th Street, Winston-Salem, North Carolina on the 17th day of December, 2010 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends in the auditorium of the church immediately following the service.
