Algine Ogburn

Winston-Salem – Mrs. Algine Neely Ogburn, 86, died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 24, 2011. She was born on June 27, 1924 to Julius Dobson and Algine Foy Neely in Winston-Salem. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Robert Masten Ogburn, Jr. She graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School and Randolph Macon Women’s College. She also received a degree from Salem College in Studio Art.
After graduation she was employed by Wachovia as editor of the Winston Wachovian. She was involved with the Little Theater, the Junior League of Winston-Salem, and the Library Board of Salem College. She was also a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, the Sorosis Club, Flower Lore Garden Club, Women’s Reading Club and Forsyth Country Club. She was on the Board of Managers for Salem Cemetery for 15 years and a lifetime member of the Board of Visitors at Davidson College. She was a lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Algine enjoyed playing the banjo and was a member of the String Alongs Band. She had many other interests including piano, tennis and bridge.
Survivors include cousins, Nancy Vaughn Moore, Louise Partridge Applegate, Ruth Martin Drymon, John Dobson Martin, William Powell Patridge, Sara Nash Crowder, Martin A. Nash, and Richard E. Nash.
There will be a graveside service at Salem Cemetery on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church. Following the service, friends and family will visit in the Narthex.
