Paul Edward Burke
February 15, 1928 – January 3, 2012
Paul Edward Burke, 83, of Winston-Salem died January 3, 2012 at Forsyth
Medical Center.
He was born February 15, 1928 in Forsyth County, the son of Aaron D.
Burke and Lela Fulk Burke. In addition to the death of his parents he
was preceded by his wife, Betty Jo Ketner Burke and their son, Thomas
Edward Burke; two sisters, Catherine B. Morgan and Doris B. Todd; five
brothers, Aaron D. Burke, Jr., James T. Burke, Bobby Burke, Ray Burke,
and Thomas Burke.
Survivors include two brothers, T. Wake Burke and wife Lucy of
Lewisville and William (Buddy) Burke and wife Betty of Clemmons;
cousins, several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church.
Mr. Burke graduated from Lewisville High School in 1946 and later
graduated from the American Institute of Banking. He began his career
with Wachovia Bank in 1946 and retired in 1985 as a Vice President.
His civic contributions were Board of Trustees New Philadelphia
Moravian Church, Board of Trustees and Chairman of Hawthorne Surgical
Center, Board of Trustees Senior Services of Winston-Salem, Board of
Trustees Chapter of American Heart Association.
A private service will be held at a later date with interment in New
Philadelphia Moravian Church graveyard, God’s acre.
Memorials may be made to charity of donor’s choice.

I remember him fondly. His office was at the Thruway Branch, where I was a teller for just over two years, 1977-1978. He thought I demonstrated great potential, which at the time, meant so much to me. Even after moving to the west coast, when I flew back to visit my brother in High Point, I called Mr. Burke to say hello and he was kind enough to take me to lunch. A very kind man.
