Thomas Maxwell Neely passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Feb. 26, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy in Charlotte following a brief illness. Born in Statesville, Tom was the son of the late William Lloyd Neely, Jr. and Caddie Worthington Neely. He was a graduate of Statesville High School and UNC-Chapel Hill. He proudly served his country in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Neely served as Senior Vice President with Wachovia, relocating to Gastonia in 1990 to serve as Wachovia Bank's Gaston County Area Executive. He later held several regional and company-wide senior leadership positions from Charlotte until his retirement in 2002. Tom was an avid fly-fisherman and golfer who loved nature and genealogy. A man of simple tastes and wants, he was always quietly generous to others. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Lloyd Neely, III, and a daughter, Shannon Wilson Neely. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Harrison Neely; daughter, Meghan Maxwell Neely of Durham; stepchildren, Katie Henderson of West Hollywood, Calif., Jay Henderson (Carrie) of Greenville, S.C.; sister, Ann Neely Raymer; nieces, Kim Raymer Robertson (Hugh), and Cabbie Raymer all of Charlotte; mother-in-law, Helen Harrison of Greenwood, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Helen Harrison of Alpharetta, Ga., and Jane Harrison Keperling (Bob) of Anderson, S.C., and many cherished friends and extended family members. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, March 1 at 2:00PM at Southminster Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dan Oedy officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be private.
