Emmet 'Bubba' Howle

 

- Emmet Napier Howle, Jr. 74, died peacefully May 11, 2012 with his wife, son, grandson, and daughter-in-law present. "Bubba" was born in Darlington, SC, June 17, 1936, to the late Emmet Napier Howle, Sr., and Ruth Whitaker Howle. He graduated from St. John's High School and following graduation, entered the United States Marine Corps where he was honorably discharged in 1958, with the rank of Sergeant. He graduated from The University of South Carolina in 1963, and was subsequently employed by B.C. Moore and Sons. Shortly, Bubba began his banking career with Wachovia Bank in Charlotte and, after a year, was transferred to Raleigh. After ten years, he returned to his home state in 1973 as a Sales Executive with First National Bank of S.C. His last position with Wachovia, in Charlotte, was Vice President of the Sales Finance Department. Bubba graduated from The School of Consumer Banking in Charlottesville, VA and enjoyed his many years and relationships with the banking world where he began and ended his career with Wachovia Bank and Trust Company. He was very well known for his humorous stories and thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends, his son, and grandson. Bubba was a life-long Presbyterian and deeply cherished his southern heritage. He was married to the former Jane Harvey McGowan of Greenwood, SC. Their married life, of nearly fifty years, was spent in Raleigh, Columbia, SC, and Charlotte. Mr. Howle was preceded in death by his brother, David Whitaker Howle. At the time of his death and only for a short three days, he was survived by his wife, Jane McGowan Howle; son, Emmet N. Howle, III, his wife, Glenda Young Howle; and his son, Emmet N. Howle IV; step grandson, Jordan Allen Williams; sister, Eleanor Howle Langley and her husband, Walter Raleigh Langley, Jr.; sister in law, Marian McGowan Nisbet; and six nephews. The family will receive friends at their home at 5pm on Wednesday May 16th. A celebration of his life, with the Reverend Katherine Cooke Kerr officiating, will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 200 West Trade Street, Charlotte, on Thursday May, 17 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends following the service in The Fellowship Hall. A private family interment, with military rites, will be held in Darlington.
