WALKER WINSTON-SALEM Archibald Colin Walker August 23, 2012 Archibald Colin Walker died on Aug. 23, 2012. He was very proud to be over 100 years of age. He was born in Maxton, NC, Robeson County to Dougal Vance and Jeanette McCormick Walker. He received his LLB (JD) degree from Wake Forest College in 1934. He married Mary Elizabeth Tyson from Mt. Gilead. Upon graduation from Wake Forest, he practiced law in Lumberton, NC until he entered military service in early 1943. He served three years in the United States Navy during World War II. He was the commanding officer of the USS APc7, operating from New Guinea through the Philippines to Okinawa. He was officer in tactical Command to return three ships to San Francisco at the end of the war. After the end of the war he continued to serve in the United States Navy Reserve for 20 years and served as Commanding Officer of the Navy Reserve Training Division at Winston-Salem. After leaving the active service in March, 1946, he was employed by Wachovia Bank and Trust CO. in Winston-Salem. He served as Vice President and President of several of its subsidiary corporations. He also was vice president of the Wachovia Mortgage Company and served as its Chief Staff Attorney. He was a member of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce, Winston-Salem Kiwanis Club, and Forsyth County Country Club. He was charter member of Highland Presbyterian Church and was an elder from the beginning. As well as his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, four brothers, four sisters, several nephews and a niece. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Walker Plaisted and husband Merrill; and son, A. Colin Walker, Jr. and wife Barbara. Four grandchildren: Dr. William H. Nau, wife Dr. Francesca Rossetto; Mary Elizabeth O'Hara, husband Sean O'Hara; Joanna Walker Samu, husband Henry; and Jocelyn Mary Walker. There are two step grandchildren: Frederick William Plaisted, II and Parker Bennett Plaisted. He had three great grandchildren: Samuel Walker O'Hara, Duncan Gildea O'Hara, and Jillian Rule. In addition he had four step great grandchildren: Preston, Mason, Elizabeth Plaisted and Ansley Plaisted. He is also survived by 10 devoted nieces and nephews, as well as 14 grand nieces and nephews. A service in celebration of his life will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church at 2380 Cloverdale Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday August, 31, 2012. Family will receive friends immediately after the service in the Fellowship Building.
