Barbara Maxwell

Barbara Anne Maxwell, 50, of Lewisville, passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 2013, while vacationing at WaltDisney World. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 22, 1962, to the late Howard Graham Maxwell and Edna Ruth Baird Maxwell, Barbara came to Winston-Salem via Wake Forest University, graduating in 1984. After graduation from UNC Chapel Hill School of Law in 1988, Barbara spent the majority of her careerat Wachovia Bank. In 2011, Barbara left the bank to starta new career in veterinary medicine.

Surviving Barbara are her sister, Cynthia Maxwell of Atlanta, GA, and brother, Harlen Maxwell of Austin, TX. Also left to mourn Barbara are her goddaughter, Janet Sykes of Winston-Salem, and godson, Jesse Sykes of Bethania. Barbara's passion was her dogs. She enjoyed taking them to flyball and agility competitions all over the east coast. While she is predeceasedby her beloved Labrador Retriever, Casey, and Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Trevor, Barbara leaves behind her Corgis, Tori and Owen, and her Belgian Malinois, Dominic, who miss her terribly. Barbara was kind enough to share her dogs with residents at The Oaks and patients at Forsyth Medical Center. She also volunteered to work with animals at the NC Zoo and SciWorks. In addition to her four-legged children, she will be greatly missed by all her doggie and Wachovia friends. In lieu of flowers, Barbara would have appreciated any memorial donations be directed to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741 (bestfriends.org). A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Saturday, January 26, at 2pm. at the Winston-Salem Elks Lodge, 2585 Griffith Road.
