Edward Glenn Hart, 96, passed away peacefully at his home on March 28, 2013. Born on January 15, 1917, he was the oldest child of Edward Lee and Sarah Ocie Hart and grew up in Surry County, Virginia. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1938 with a degree in business administration and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Army.
Mr. Hart married the late Neta Franklin Scott in 1941, and soon thereafter received orders to go overseas to serve in WWII, serving in the US Army until 1945. Following his time in the service, the Harts made their first home in Asheville, NC where Mr. Hart began his life-long career with Wachovia Bank and Trust Co.
He was employed by Wachovia for 36 years. In 1955 , he moved his family to Winston-Salem. As a charter member of Knollwood Baptist Church, he served on the Board of Deacons and various church committees. He was a member of the Civitan Club and Forsyth Country Club. His favorite past times were playing golf, enjoying his horses, and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband and father, who provided a loving home for his family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years. He is survived by four children: Glenn Hart, Jr (Kathleen) Little Plymouth, VA; Neta Morgan, Winston-Salem, Barbara West (David) Marietta, GA and Julie Sunderman (Michael), Peachtree Corners, GA and nine grandchildren, Scott Hart (Kobi), Kimberly Hicks (Bill), Jeff Morgan (Heather), Joanna Reavis (Lee), Elizabeth Williams (Jacob), Patrick West (Mary), Bryan West, Andrew and Eric Sunderman. One brother, Darold Hart and one sister, Sarah Gene Joyner survive him. He also cherished their ten great grand children: Ian, Kent, Craig, Stephanie, Ellen, Tess, Noah, Samuel, Adam, and Carter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 2 at Knollwood Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am at the Church. All are invited to then join the procession to Forsyth Memorial Park for a brief interment service.
