December 14, 2013, Dorothy Gosnell Moore left this world and entered the healing and loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She battled the rare brain disease of Creutzfeldt-Jakob (CJD) for the last eighteen months with strength and courage. Dorothy G. Moore was born September 19, 1937, to Earle and Mildred Gosnell of Wilmington, NC. After graduation from New Hanover High School, Dorothy proceeded to Mars Hill College. Dorothy was very involved in her community. For many years, her professional career led her to become local Human Resources Director with Wachovia Bank and the Secretary of the local Advisory Board of Wachovia. She retired from Wachovia Bank after 43 years of devoted service. Dorothy was a member of the Professional Business Women, served on the board of the Girl Club of Wilmington and in her later years worked as a consultant for Wachovia Bank and The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. Through much joy and conviction, Dorothy served her church, Sunset Park Baptist in many different roles. Some of these included, Sunday school teacher, Nursery coordinator/worker, WMU Director, choir and ensemble member, church clerk and numerous committee and chair positions and also directed many weddings. She married Manley C. Moore in 1961 and enjoyed each day they had together for 52 years. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Frances G. Johnson and Irene G. Holden. Survivors along with her husband, Manley, are her sister, Barbara G. Woodward, of Jacksonville, NC; nieces, Debbie Carty (John) of Carolina Beach, NC, Kay McClosky (Kevin) of Elon, NC; nephews, Danny Holden (JoEllen), Mike Holden of Carolina Beach, NC, Billy G. Woodward (Martha) and Charles Woodward (Joy) of Jacksonville, NC. Also surviving are five great nieces, six great nephews, eight great-great nieces and twelve great-great nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Sunset Park Baptist Church, 231 Central Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28401. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, at the church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family thanks the caregivers, both professional and friends, who faithfully cared for her during her illness.
