Baxter Lee Fentress, Jr. died on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Wesley Long Hospital. He died peacefully, with his wife and two daughters at his side.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008 in the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary with Reverend Peggy Matthews officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service at their home.
Lee was born in Greensboro on August 19, 1924, to the late Baxter Lee Fentress, Sr. and Julia Miller Blake.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Katherine, daughters Katherine Fentress Permar of Greensboro and Julia Fentress McClurg of Lynchburg, Virginia, grandchildren, Stephen Alan Baker, Katherine Lee McClurg and Logan Marie McClurg, and sister, Frances Chappell of Signal Mountain, Tennessee.
He was a lover of God, life, laughter and golf. He was a graduate of Grimsley High School and of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an avid Tar Heel fan. He was a retired bank officer of Wachovia Bank and Trust serving in both Winston Salem and Greensboro and was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. He also served in the United States Army during World War II.
All who knew him were blessed by his infectious laughter and kind, compassionate heart. He will be greatly missed.
