Gloria DeVane, 73 of Winston Salem died Friday January 22, 2016. Gloria was the daughter of the late Cora Starks, Alexander Hart and the step daughter to the late Lawrence Starks.  She was a 1962 graduate of Atkins High School and a proud Camels cheerleader. She went on to study at North Carolina College (now NC Central University) and graduated in 1966. Education and volunteering were her passion and for over 30+ years she could be found teaching at Forsyth Technical Community College. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Vernon DeVane, daughters Annette Howard of Charlotte and Vernetta DeVane-Williams (Stephen) of Winston Salem, son Bernard DeVane of the home, grandsons Evan and Seth Williams, sisters Lois Graham, Shelia Moore, and Phyllis Starks, brothers Melvin Howard (Angela), and Arnold Howard (Marlene). Funeral services will be this Saturday, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1075 Shalimar Dr. with visitation at 10:30 am, funeral at 11:00.
