Bennie Lee Griffin

WINSTON-SALEM Nov. 6, 1953 - Jan. 31, 2017 Bennie Lee Griffin Jr., known to many as "Pops," of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the age of 63. Bennie was born to parents Bennie "BG" Griffin and Elizabeth Dukes Griffin on November 6, 1953 in Winston-Salem, NC. He grew up one of nine children and many would say he was the leader of the group. In 1972 Bennie graduated from North Forsyth High School. In 1975, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served the country until 1981. Bennie then fulfilled 22 years of service with Wachovia Corporation, then ended his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC. In 1975, he married his soul mate and best friend, Ronda Griffin. They were married for 41 years. Bennie is survived by his wife, Ronda Griffin; mother Elizabeth Dukes Griffin; sons Jawaun (Whitney) Griffin and Derrek Griffin, Michael (Sequilla) Griffin; daughters Darnetta (John) Ashford and Carisa Morris, Jennifer Griffin, and Stacy Griffin; sister Elizabeth (Charles) Minor; brothers Richard (Shirley) Dukes, Randolph Griffin, and Michael Griffin; brothers-in-law Fred Glenn and Frank (Willie Mae) Morris; sisters-in-law Renette Morris, Princess Morris and Clevon Simmons; grandchildren Demorris (Tori), Jamarl, Jasmin, Chris (Toya), Jayona, Journi, Derrek Jr., Tzachi, and Bella of Winston-Salem; and a host of loving great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by father Bennie "BG" Griffin, brothers Tim Dukes, Dennis Griffin, Ricky Griffin and sister Debbie (James) Fair of Winston-Salem. Bennie was a great family man who will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and phenomenal grandpa. He welcomed all with open arms and created many memories throughout the years. Family visitation will be at New Generation Praise and Worship International Ministries (1850 Gyro Drive Winston-Salem, NC 27127) 2:00 pm Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 with funeral services following at 2:30pm.
