Aubrey started Wachovia's Realty/Mortage in 1963 - under the leadership of John Watlington.
Aubrey Clayton Doggett Jr., 74, of Winston-Salem, died July 16, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center after complications from pneumonia.
He was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Greensboro, the son of Annie Blevins and Aubrey Clayton Doggett.
After graduating from UNC, Mr. Doggett served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, where he earned the Purple Heart. He remained an active member of the reserves for 20 years and retired as lieutenant colonel. He was salesman for Prudential Insurance Co. and Kavanagh-Smith. Upon moving to Winston-Salem, he started as the vice-president of Wachovia Bank and Trust, became president of Wachovia Mortgage and later was the president and founder of Wachovia Realty Investments Co. Mr. Doggett then founded his own company, Wingreen Corp. Among his many achievements, he served as director on many boards, including Mortgage Bankers of the Carolinas and Mortgage Bankers of America. He was the chairman of the GGO Golf Tournament in 1960. He loved to take his family to the mountains and ocean.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Judy Perier Doggett; sons Aubrey Clayton Doggett III of Wrightsville Beach, Russell Lee Doggett of Raleigh and Robert Keith Doggett of El Segundo, Calif.; daughters Kathryn Doggett Stewart (Philip) of Winston-Salem and Karen Doggett Malone (Brooks) of Raleigh; grandchildren Scott, Kristen and Alex Stewart; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Beaman of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a nephew; and three nieces.
Up until the end, his wit and humor kept the family's spirits lifted. In lieu of flowers, the family request's memorials may be made to the Shepherd Center of Greater Winston-Salem, 1700 Ebert St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
