Remember very clearly Jim while I worked in the Raleigh office in the early 70's. He was a kind and gracious man who knew his business and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Jim was a fine person! Bob shaffner

Jim was my Loan Administration for a few years. Not only was he a consummate professional and gentleman, he was a great teacher and dispenser of wisdom. As an example, we somehow got into a discussion of whether it was OK to occasionally get a haircut during the workday. His advice: "Your hair grows while you're working, doesn't it?"

When Jim Sapp was a trainee in Winston-Salem in, as I recall, 1969-70 he performed a project under my supervision. During  the project period of perhaps six weeks, I was not aware of Jim's heroic military service in Vietnam . . . only to learn about  it several months later. Such unpretentiousness I'd never seen before in anyone.  Jim Sapp was a first-rate human . . a good and decent man.  God rest his soul.

Jim Sapp was a mentor, leader and great supporter to me in my first 2 years in corporate loan administration. He cared deeply about the quality of training of young corporate bankers while instilling the ‘Wachovia Way’, values and approaches I carry with me to this day. He set my career in motion as he did for so many. He was always encouraging and helping and set an example of respect and decency. My thoughts and prayers are with Jim and his family.
