Steven Thompson

 

Veteran, Staff Sergeant Steven R. Thompson, 72, answered the Master’s call on November 16, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center.

He was born January 14, 1948 to Meredith “Tippy” Davis and Mary Louise Thompson.

He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a faithful member of the Sunday School and Usher Board. In 1967, he attended A&T University in Greensboro, NC. Shortly after he entered the Marines, graduated, and spent the bulk of his time in Hawaii. Upon his return, he worked in the banking and insurance industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.

Left to cherish precious memories are his wife, Julia L. Thompson; daughter, Gennette Denise Thompson; son, Steven Ray Thompson, Jr.; two brothers, Stanley B. Thompson and Francisco (Claudette) Hardnez; five sisters, Geraland (Aaron) Jarrett, Marilyn B. Thompson, Tina T. Williams, Cheryl Green, and Sandra (George) Morrison; one aunt, Mabel Evans; his extended children, Sataria (Cory) Barr, Bendu Williams, MaZoe Anderson, and Myer Dempster Otto, Jr.; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, November 27, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home. Private services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020.
