Chancellor Johnson O. Akinleye shared the message below with the NCCU community regarding the passing of Board of Trustee Member and Alumnus Isaiah Tidwell, C’67.
Dear NCCU Community,

It is with profound sadness that I share with you that our beloved NCCU Board of Trustee Member and Alumnus Isaiah Tidwell, C’67, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019. His passing is indeed a great loss for his family, the NCCU community and members of the Eagle alumni family.

Trustee Tidwell was more than an accomplished business executive, esteemed trustee and dedicated alumnus of North Carolina Central University; he was a friend and a person who loved and represented this institution with pride and distinction. He was selected by his class to serve as the Founder’s Day speaker for the Golden Eagles in 2017.

I would ask that you place his loving wife and college sweetheart, Alumna Hellena Huntley Tidwell, C’68, and their family and classmates in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be shared once they are complete.

Oh my gosh.  I just saw Isiah and Helena about a month ago at brunch in Brookhaven and he looked and acted  great.  I am so shocked and sad.  He and Mike Starr were two of my favorite Wacovians.

So many of the older gentlemen bankers leaving us.  Isiah was one of the nicest people I knew while at Wachovia.  Sad news.

I was shocked and sadden to hear of Isaiah's passing.  I saw him a year ago (he and Hellena) at Hellena's Aunt's funeral.  While I know we all have to leave here one day to a truly heavenly place, it still stuns when you hear of the demise of friends you've known for years...friends you have admired through the years.  May God bless, strengthen, and comfort the family and close friends.  May he rest in peace.

There are so many good comments to make about Isaiah... He was the best, loved and admired by alll.

I was priveledged to know and work with him for many years at Legacy Wachovia.
