Anne Johnson Doss , an Executive Vice President and 28 year veteran of Wells Fargo and Wachovia, known for her ability to transform and lead businesses, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. She was 56.

Anne's loving family, especially her husband of 26 years, Herbert; son, Brenton Purcell; and daughter, Kristin Mountcastle, were the center of her life and her inspiration. Anne was equally devoted to her sisters, Jayne Batts and Jan Smith; brothers, Chris and Jay Johnson; father, Stan Johnson; her aunt, Pat Studdert; cousins, Kent and Debra; granddaughter, Ella Scott Mountcastle; son-in-law, Dustin Mountcastle; and four nieces and nephews. Her vast collection of friends were an extension of her family.

Anne is remembered by the many who loved her for her piercing green eyes, impeccable style (Thank you, Neiman Marcus), attention to detail, deep wisdom, fierce love of God, and all things Rock & Roll, especially Marvin Gaye, the Beatles, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Marley. She displayed kindness and generosity to everyone, was angered by, and fought injustices, to others.

Anne was head of Wells Fargo's Personal and Small Business Insurance, where she was responsible for a team dedicated to providing small business and consumer insurance solutions. She also was head of Wells Fargo's Life Insurance and Disability Management business. She previously led the Insurance National Practices and Special Risk group, which provides resources for Wells Fargo's property and casualty and employee benefit units. She was responsible for growing the Special Risks group, which provides targeted insurance programs to select industries. Previously, Anne was president of Wachovia Insurance Services, where she managed the commercial property and casualty insurance, personal lines, employee benefits, and life insurance operations. In addition to her leadership, Anne was known throughout Wells Fargo for her grace, style, commitment to diversity and inclusion and being a caring boss and mentor to many. She was also the executive sponsor of the Wells Fargo Insurance Diversity Council. Anne was born in Yakima, Washington, but spent her life in North Carolina. She was an alumnae of NC State University and Guilford Technical Community College. Anne was ordained as an interfaith minister in 2003 by OneSpirit Interfaith Seminary in New York City, and was proud to have performed several wedding ceremonies, including her daughter's. She was active on a number of non-profit boards, including the NC Dance Theatre, where she was Board Chair-Elect, and served as the Development Committee co-chair, Carolina Thread Trail, Women Executives for Community Service, and the Women's Cultural Exchange. Anne and her husband lived in Charlotte and Southport, North Carolina. In recognition of Anne's work and commitment to mentoring and providing opportunities for women, the family has established a scholarship in her honor through the Wings Scholarships program of Women Executives for Community Service. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, followed by a reception to celebrate Anne's life at NC Dance Theatre, 701 North Tryon Street, Charlotte.
