Shirley Jean (Shoaf) Lunsford, 72, passed away on July 7, 2021, at Novant Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. She was born on October 18, 1948, in Winston-Salem, NC to Gray and Dorothy (Southern) Shoaf.

Shirley grew up in Winston-Salem, NC. She graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1967. After high school, she began working for Wachovia Bank & Trust as an Administrative Assistant in Loan Administration where she worked for 40 years. She retired in 2007.

Shirley married Donald G. Lunsford in 1967. They were happily married for 42 years. She attended Crestwood Baptist Church.

She enjoyed traveling. She loved to go to the beach to see her sister, Ellen. While there, she enjoyed trips to the ocean where she loved to watch the waves. She also loved to bird watch, especially hummingbirds. She also loved to collect pig statues and stuffed pigs. Her favorite TV shows were The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. She divided her time between her home in Winston-Salem and her sister’s home in Newport.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lunsford, and her parents, Gray and Dorothy Shoaf. She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Morton (Skip Morton) of Winston-Salem, NC, and her son, Michael Lunsford (Yvonne Lunsford) of Grand Haven, Michigan, her sister, Ellen Shore (Bill Shore) of Newport, NC, and Shirley’s granddaughters, Courtney Lunsford and Katie Lunsford, and her step-granddaughter, Taylor Sowers.

A special thanks goes to Dr. Denise Laurienti, who was so faithful and attentive to Shirley during her illness. Also, special thanks go out to a close friend of the family, Angie Stewart, whom she loved like a daughter.

Memorials can be made to Crestwood Baptist Church, 530 Motor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 in lieu of flowers.

A visitation will be held at Salem Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC from 6pm to 8pm, Monday, July 12, 2021. The family will be greeting friends and relatives. Her funeral will be held at Crestwood Baptist Church, 530 Motor Road, Winston-Salem, NC on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC.

It is very sad to hear of Shirley passing.   We worked togetherr in National Banking for 18 years and was friends for many more.  She was a wonderful person and so easy to work.  Sending my heartfelt condolances to her family.  She will be missed.
