Doris Williamson Jones

Winston-Salem Feb. 3, 1928 - April 6, 2016 Mrs. Doris Williamson Jones, 88, passed away late Wednesday evening April 6, 2016, six days after celebrating her 65th wedding anniversary. She was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on February 3, 1928 to the late Henry Wesley Williamson and Etta Forlines Williamson. Doris was the youngest of four children (who have all pre-deceased her) and grew up on a farm. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Clarksville High School in 1945. Doris graduated from Meredith College in June 1949, where she participated in musical activities and earned a degree in Mathematics, with a minor in Latin.

After graduation, Doris began employment with Wachovia Bank in the summer of 1949. She met Lewis Jones, her future husband, shortly after joining the bank. Their engagement was announced in December of 1950 by President Chief Executive Mr. Bob Hanes at a Wachovia Christmas Party in Raleigh, NC. Doris and Lewis were married at Hayes Barton Methodist Church on March 31, 1951. Later they joined Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in 1962, once they moved to Winston-Salem. She was a member of the church Choir and loved music. Doris began teaching Junior High Mathematics in 1966 at Wiley Junior High, then later at Jefferson Junior High, where she taught for 27 years. Doris was a dedicated teacher, who loved her students.

Doris is survived by her loving husband Lewis Jones; son Al Jones and wife Susan; daughter Sandy Albert; and four grandchildren Andrew Jones and wife Jessica, Philip Jones and wife Leigh-Anna, Jenny Hagen and husband Hart, and Katie Albert. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday April 10, 2016 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Key officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. The committal service will take place at Forsyth Memorial Park at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Doris' memory to Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, 3543 Robinhood Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Online condolences can be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.

What a wonderful life, a beautiful person, and a special love story.  The memorial service was a gift to all who were there.  Best wishes to Lewis, Al, and all the family.
