My deepest condolences to the Hairston family. I only have good memories of working with Mary on 2nd shift. I remember her laughter and how much she loved her girls Stephanie and Erica. I still recall many of the laughs we shared over the years. After Mary's retirement I would run into her from time to time in Walkertown, either at Webster Brothers Hardware or the gas station.

Ted, you're in my prayers.

With deepest Sympathy,

I met Mary while working on 2nd shift in Data Processing.  She was such a wonderful person and a true friend.  I remember one night the roads got bad before we had a chance to get off work so we were stuck.  She said she wasn't going to drive all the way to Walnut Cove in the bad weather.  She said she would stay on the sofa in the lounge.

I called my brother who had a Jeep. I told him we were stuck at work.  He said you're never stuck when you have a brother with a 4 wheel drive...  LOL ..  He said he would come and get us.  I told Mary I had 2 bedrooms and a Jeep on the way to get us.  She could come home with me.

In her normal sweet way she didn't want to impose.  I told her she was silly and she was not staying at the bank when she could sleep in a warm bed .  We were close to the same size so I had clean clothes for her too.

She stayed and we had a great time.  She even convenienced by 2 year old to let her play with her Strawberry Shortcake doll..  :)

Even though I only knew Mary for a short time she made a lasting impression.  Always smiling, always happy and always talking about her loving family.

She will truly be missed and I feel blessed to have known her.

I did not know Mary Jane however I do remember her name.  After reading the thoughtful comments of Shirley Creed, Mary Jane's friend and associate, It has inspired me to comment.  I find it incredible that my fellow Wachovians, with the aid of the Old Gang website, are able and willing  to share their feelings, their relationships and love for their fellow associates and work mates.  I greatly value the culture and values people like Shirley and Mary Jane demonstrated at work and beyond.  I am extremely proud of them and many other Wachovians I had the honor to work with and get to know over the years.  My warm and kind regards to Mary Jane's loved ones.  God bless the memory and soul  of Mary Jane Mitchel Hairston.

I had the pleasure of working with Mary when I worked 2nd shift taking work from Control to Data Entry for many years and found her to be a great friend and helpful teammate. She always smiled and talked of her family and the long drive she made everyday to come to work. When they closed down the Data Entry area, I lost touch with her, especially after I left Wachoiva in 1995. I was so sorry  to learn of her loss and will say a prayer for her and her family. I have asked my wife, Gail Hargrave French Parham, who went to heaven on August 17th after a 6 month battle with brain cancer, to welcome her with open arms which I know she will.

I bet the 2nd shift in Heaven is thrilled to have her join them with the other great Wachovians.

Peace be with her family.
