I was saddened to read that my friend, Charlie Frankel, has passed away. Charlie and I were in the same trainee class in 1967 and lived in rented houses across the street from each other. We carpooled to work each day and, like many other young Wachovia future executives (we hoped), parked in a Buddy McCormic gravel parking lot at the base of LIberty St at I-40. Charlie was a big athletic guy and set a brisk pace up the Liberty St hill each morning. I was glad when we reached level ground at 3rd Street and I could catch my breath on the easy one block walk over to the old Wachovia Building. He started out in Wachovia Services and later moved to the Bond Department. His easy-going, friendly nature helped him make friends easily so I am not suprised at his notable success in banking in Florida and his generousity in volunteering in the communities where he lived.

I enjoyed reading Austin's comments and was very impressed with Charley's career.
Actually I think of him everyday I stop at the intersection of Buena Vista and Stratford roads where Charlie was first occupant of a new house being built there. The house was diagonally acrooss the street ffrom John Watlington which caused Charley to recieve several comments.
We were happy when he joined us in Wachovia Services and wished him well when he joined the Bond Dept. I enjoyed being around that happy smile and warm personality. Glad his Wacovia training served him well as he progressed in his career and service to the community.
