I met Sam for the first time in Raleigh NC. I was struck by his energy, speaking ablity and dedication to family, Wachovia and the community... We all were blessed to have Sam among us. I am sure he is involved in the United Way in Heaven and someday will be its President along with singing with the angels.

I met Sam in 1981 when I joined Wachovia in the Finacial Institution  Dept. He was most kind introducing me to folks in the Bank and taking me on customer calls. Sam was a good example of what it was to be a Wachovian.

It was my pleasure to know Sam from the day he moved to Raleigh from "Little Washington" to take over the position Jim Powers left as head of what we called "the Out of Town' division.. I'll never forget him being at his best when he and I flew to Stamford, Conn. with Mr. Watlington to pitch Wachovia to Huyck Corp. which was moving its corporate offices to Wake Forest . Sam could not have been more impressive.. Needless to say, we got the business...............PLUS- what a great guy!! And a fun guy to be with. I am glad our paths crossed in life.

Sam headed Financial Institutions when I joined that team in 1982 after 2 years in Kuwait He was a great role model in developing relationships with clients.  How to select prospects or product to offer. Prepare for the call and ask for the business.  You did that on every call.

Sam was a very capable and successful banker. I knew and worked with him almost from the very beginning of my career until he retired, and then connected with him in Jacksonville as well. I really liked Sam, admired him, and valued our relationship.
